The original kitchen occupied a narrow rear room separated from dining and garden. Family life passed through it, but no one could comfortably stay.
Services moved toward the centre, allowing the working side of the kitchen to sit against retained fabric while a long opening formed the new garden edge. The existing decorative timber detail remained visible between old dining room and new work.
